Students have a variety of co-curricular activities from which to choose as St Ursula’s College is committed to educating the whole person and promoting a healthy balance in life.
A large number of students is involved in sports such as Netball, Soccer, Touchfootball, Water Polo, Basketball and Volleyball.
St Ursula’s is a member of the Rockhampton District Secondary School Sports Association and participates in sporting competitions with other Independent and State Secondary Schools in Rockhampton and Yeppoon.
Other sports available at interschool level include Swimming, Athletics, Cross Country, Surf League and Equestrian Events.
Students are provided with the opportunity to seek selection in representative district level and to develop their sporting gifts.
The College has a well organised Inter-House competition and provides many opportunities for students to maintain a high level of fitness.
St Ursula’s strives to develop the aesthetic sense through an Instrumental Music and Vocal Program: the School Orchestra, the Choir, Ensemble Groups and the annual Combined Colleges’ Musical with St Brendan’s College.
The College Choir and Orchestra have enjoyed great success in the Rockhampton Eisteddfod and at State Level Competitions.
There is a wide array of instruments taught to students in individual lessons or ensembles.
Further information about the Instrumental Music Program is available from the College by request. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Music, Dance and Drama are also an integral part of the College Curriculum.
Debating and Public Speaking provide opportunities to build confidence and acquire the skills of logical argument. Students participate in;
- Lions Youth of the Year;
- Rostrum Voice of Youth
- Interschool Debating
- The College Oratory Competition
In these co-curricular activities, students are encouraged to develop their gifts and balance their commitments; such involvement is also a chance to develop co-operation and build a sense of community.
Service to others is promoted through involvement in;
- Interact (Rotary Youth group);
- St Vincent de Paul volunteering
- annual Eddie Rice Camp (which supports children in need);
- the Justice Action Group; and
- other activities such as visiting the elderly in the community and participating in doorknock appeals.
This rich variety of opportunities assists in creating the spirit of St Ursula’s and in fulfilling the Mission of the College.
