PRINCIPAL’S WELCOME

As Principal of St Ursula’s College Yeppoon, I welcome you to our website. Each page provides a snapshot of how we support our students to Live, Love, Learn and Lead through the values of the Presentation Sisters.

St Ursula’s College, Yeppoon, was founded in 1918 by the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (PBVM) and is a Ministry of Mercy Partners. As an independent Catholic Day and Boarding Secondary College, St Ursula’s offers an education for young women of the future based on gospel values and Nano Nagle’s vision, with a particular commitment to:

The promotion of, and education for, justice;
The development of leadership;
Encouraging students to strive towards reaching their potential; and
Preparing students to participate fully and responsibly in society.

This vision sees an emphasis on an educational environment where the gospel values are experienced both in daily living and through authentic and engaging learning experiences, developing critical and future-focussed learners.

At St Ursula’s College, we offer girls in Years 7-12 a holistic, comprehensive, faith-filled Secondary education encompassing academic and vocational pathways to tertiary study and /or employment. We celebrate every student and their unique abilities; this dynamic culture produces strong, confident young women, capable of forging a positive path for themselves by embracing the College motto of “Perfice Gressus Meos” (Perfect My Steps).

Our Boarding House, Yumba-Gy-You, is located on campus, nestled in the foothills of the Yeppoon Central Business District, within walking distance to the Southern Great Barrier Reef. Yeppoon has a population of 18,100 residents and is a safe and friendly close-knit community on the Capricorn Coast in tropical Queensland.

As you navigate this website and our resources, we trust that you will be equipped to make the best choice for your daughter’s future; however, if we can be of further assistance do not hesitate to contact the College.

NAIDOC Week celebrations

Our College celebrated NAIDOC Week with the official re-opening and blessing of their Yarning Circle and Darumbal Garden.

Held on Friday 12 July, special guests included Darumbal Elder, Uncle Billy Mann, Aunty Jo-Anne Mann, and Natalie Semple and Phillipa Johnson from Rockhampton Catholic Education Office.

Year 9 student, Billie-Jo, welcomed all guests to Country, and College Assistant Principal - Mission and Identity, Kathy Strelow, led attendees in prayer.
Our Community Support Officer, Katrina Whitham, explained the significance of a Yarning Circle and then invited Uncle Billy to bless the Yarning Circle and Darumbal Garden with a traditional Darumbal Smoking Ceremony. The event concluded with traditional dances and songs performed by First Nations students.

Earlier in the week, St Ursula’s students and staff acknowledged the significant of NAIDOC Week with a full College assembly on Monday, and a group of students and staff also attended the regional NAIDOC Mass at Holy Family Church on Tuesday.

We congratulate Laney (Year 8) and Shaneil (Year 11) who were recognised for their efforts during the Capricorn Coast’s NAIDOC celebrations on Friday 5 July. Laney was awarded for her Sporting Excellence, while Shaneil was recognised for her Leadership.
